Some Days We Loaf

Ilion, NY does not have a whole lot going on but it is home to Remington (as in rifles not razor blades).  There is a major factory here and museum that was recommended to us.  But the winds are peppery today and the air temp in the 50s...so we decided to lay over here at the Ilion Marina.  Dollar a foot, so that runs about 43 bucks per night for us, with tax.  They have water and electrical hook up, showers, bathrooms, washing machines and something we've come to prize...wifi.

Well the factory was a bit of a disappointment but the setting here in the marina is lovely albeit a bit noisy.  Highway runs by close and the railroad across the channel.

So today we loaf.  Take a nap, read books, post to the blog and breath fresh air.

Dinner out tonight.  Get to walk, say 20 feet to the shack (see picture) for a steak sandwich.  That comes recommended too. Will see.  I get a night off from cooking.

We are docked next to a snappy looking tug, Governor Roosevelt.  Looks a little too nice to be a working tug, but it is.  Great paint job...navy blue and gold.  John checked it out...its old but well maintained...even the brass is shiny.

New York has a split personality.  There is NY, NY and then there's the rest--lots and lots of small sized towns you can get your arms around.  But the industry that flourished along the Hudson, and Eric Canal is long gone.  Even the Remington factory, that is still in business is struggling according to local reports.  The stone factory in Little Falls

produced blue cloth for the Union soldiers in the Civil War.  It has been  converted into apartments, antique store, and coffee and ice cream shop.  The mint chiock chip moose tracks was good!

Not sure what were doing tomorrow but it's nice to take it a day at a time and go, as the weather permits!

  1. so you are going to make us look up which Roosevelt the blue/gold tug is named for?

My guess is Teddy Roosevelt. I have no idea if he was a NY governor, but I'm going to research it
